Three Great Steak Marinades + Giveaway
posted by Andrea | 12/1/2010I LOVE steak {all kinds of steak} but I’m usually too cheap to buy it!
Growing up, we had steak on the grill almost once a week in the summer. I even remember complaining about eating steak too often — what was I thinking? {As I type about summer grilling, West Michigan is getting it’s first snowfall of the year…snif}
Fortunately for me, Dave never complains about eating steak too often, so I stock up whenever it goes on sale and always try to keep a few in the freezer.
And because we’re moving in 3 weeks, I’ve been working like crazy to empty our freezer. So we’re FORCING ourselves to eat all kinds of steak, roasts, pork chops, and other delicious meats.
Life is rough!
As much as I LOVE steak, I also LOVE a great steak marinade…and I’ve tried plenty over the years! Some are too salty, some too sweet, some have too many different flavors that take away from the deliciousness of the meat…and some are JUST RIGHT.
Do I sound like Goldie Locks?
If you’ve never marinaded a steak before, let me assure you — it’s REALLY simple. Just put your meat in a shallow dish, mix up your marinade, pour the marinade over your meat, cover, and refrigerate. Done!
Here are three of my favorite steak marinades. All are equally delicious, so feel free to pick the one that looks best to you…depending on the amount of time you have available and how good you are at planning ahead {ahem}!
Each of these recipes makes enough for about 4 steaks so you can alter them to fit your family’s needs.
Over-Night Marinade
This marinade is so delicious…it’s the perfect mix of sweat and savory. The only problem is I usually forget to prepare it the night before! However, I have had successful results by simply making it in the morning and letting it sit all day.
{NOTE: The wrong A.1. bottle got in this picture…I used the plain A.1. steak sauce, not the marinade!}

Ingredients
- 1 c.steak sauce (I used A.1.)
- 2 T. soy sauce
- 1/3 c. Italian dressing
- 1/3 c. honey
- 2 cloves minced garlic
Directions
- Mix all ingredients until well combined.
- Pour over any type of steak, cover, and let refrigerate overnight (or at least 8 hours); turning occasionally to coat all sides.
.
2-Hour Marinade
This is the steak marinade I use most often. I always seem to have the right ingredients in the house and I usually manage to plan dinner at least 2 hours ahead!

Ingredients
- Salt to taste
- Garlic pepper to taste
- 1/3 c. soy sauce
- 1/3 c. olive oil
- 1/3 c. fresh lemon juice
- 3 T. Worcestershire sauce
- 3 T. spicy mustard
Directions
- Rub meat with salt and garlic pepper to taste.
- Mix remaining ingredients until well combined.
- Pour over any type of steak, cover, and refrigerate for 2-4 hours; turning once to coat all sides.
.
30 Minute Marinade
Honestly, I was a bit skeptical at first, but this marinade is delicious, quick, simple, and really easy to clean up!
Ingredients:
- Bottle of A.1. Steak Marinade {I use about 1/2 the bottle for 4 steaks}
Directions
- Shake bottle.
- Pour over any type of steak, cover, and let sit for 30 minutes; turning once to coat all sides.
So are you hungry yet?
Well, you have THREE options…

01/12/2010Choosing a favorite steak is tough. I love Delmonicos, tenderloin, and T-bones, though I have to say, New York Strip is probably my favorite. I wouldn’t mind having some steak sauce to put on top of my next one!

01/12/2010I love New York Strip! And although I do love a good marinade, all a really good steak needs is some salt and pepper, sear it well on the grill and serve rare, YUM!

01/12/2010I found your blog the other day and have really been enjoying it. We have similar organizational methods it appears.
This marinade recipe is SO delicious. We use it for steaks and kabobs mostly. Yoshida sauce can be purchased at Costco/Sam’s and some grocery stores (although it’s definitely a better deal at Costco/Sam’s.)
Megan’s Kabob Marinade
¼ olive oil
½ cup Yoshida’s Original Gourmet Sweet and Savory Sauce
3 Tablespoons lemon juice
2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
2 teaspoons prepared mustard
2 teaspoons McCormick® Grill Mates® Montreal Chicken Seasoning
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
¼ teaspoon meat tenderizer (optional)

01/12/2010My husband has gotten really good at buying steaks on super sale at our grocery, so we grill steak almost once a week, so I’ll definitely try your marinades. {Oh and my favorite type of steak is NY Strip.} Thanks for the chance!

01/12/2010My favorite steak place is Texas Roadhouse. Nothing better than hot rolls that come to the table with you. I can get a six ounce sirlion, a bake potato and a salad all for under ten dollars. Not a bad deal and boy is it good.

I forgot to mention the penuts you can leave the shells on the floor. How often can you be messy like that and throw food on the floor.

03/12/2010Growing up, my favorite steak was a New York Strip with just light seasoning. Once I married, my husband made us Fillet Mignon wrapped in Bacon. It was amazing! I will have to try that overnight marinade, it sounds delicious!
