Simple Silver-Shining Solutions

Do you have tarnished, grubby-looking silver pieces hiding in drawers, closets, ceder chests, and other areas of your home?

If you’re like most people, you rarely ever use your good silver because of all the work involved in polishing it, right? I have a few pieces of silver but I always felt the like the time and cost involved in polishing them wasn’t worth it {plus I actually like the look of a little tarnished silver in the mix of my creamy white dish display!}

Ok, so it’s pretty bad!

I really didn’t mind the tarnished look until the other day when I was researching natural cleaning product {talk about exciting}
I came across different ways to use baking soda and salt — like clearing a clogged drain, and… polishing silver.

The directions were so simple and quick, I just had to give it a try.

• place your sliver in a heat-proof glass dish lined with aluminum foil
• mix 1/4 c. baking soda, 2 T. salt, and enough boiling water to cover your sliver
• pour mixture over sliver and let sit for 1 or 2 minutes (told you it was quick!)

• Wipe your silver pieces with a soft cloth and let dry.

Here is the cup I received from my Great Aunt when I was born. The “after” was so shinny I couldn’t get a good picture.

I got excited, so I tried it with a few other pieces! (These were black before too)

I suppose my cup still looks nice next to my white dishes…

The whole process only took about 15 minutes from when I started boiling the water until I had everything cleaned up again… and it was completely free, using 2 simple ingredients I already had in my pantry!
